Rob Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the initial names under consideration to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was sacked on the weekend following the squad's ten-game without a victory start to the Premier League season.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have previous links to the club - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton head coach - who played over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the club board as they begin the process of hiring a new manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by Wolves in December last year.

The former West Ham United midfielder is out of work which means the club would not need to provide any buyout fee.
